Lost words Found Hearts

Everyone thought Jack was losing his mind. His grandson knew better.

At eighty-seven, Jack sits in a nursing home telling impossible stories. Elephants on the Serengeti. Oil fields in Saudi Arabia. A passionate lover in France. The Milky Way blazing over an empty desert. His daughter Kelly smiles politely and exchanges worried glances with her husband Steven, who's more concerned about the excessive monthly care bills that are draining their retirement.

Jack was an accountant. He raised his family in a modest Milwaukee neighborhood, never traveling farther than Chicago. He spent quiet Sundays with his wife Janet at the lakefront, reading books and visiting the art museum. Everyone knows this. Everyone except nine-year-old Kevin.

While his parents fight about money and memory care facilities, Kevin sits with his grandfather and takes notes. He fills a notebook with details—the sound of a waterfall in Iceland, the taste of coffee outside an Italian church, the woman on a cruise ship in Alaska who knew what she wanted and showed Jack the importance of living in the moment.

Kevin asks questions. He believes.

Jack had an amazing life before he met Janet and settled for a mundane existence. Now the real story is told and more importantly why.

When Jack dies, Kevin finds proof of a life well lived. Inside a hidden desk is a passport thick with stamps from every country Jack described. Photographs of a young man on a motorcycle, standing before Big Ben, camping under foreign stars. Receipts and journals that prove every impossible story was true.

Jack had lived an extraordinary life before he ever met Janet. He just never told anyone but her—and in his final days, his grandson who dared to believe.

A stunning novel about hidden lives, the stories we keep, and the cost of coming home.

A vintage journal with travel notes and photos, titled Lost Words Found Hearts by G A Foster.
